The Real December

Image
I wrote my last month's post and titled it for December, but it was actually for November...my bad yo. December was fun and Christmas was great! Katie and I did so many Christmas-y things. Here are things I learned in December: How Focused is Your Ministry Strategy? (Christian Surfers Conference) Mission: make disciples who can make disciples (the Great Commission) Have a laser focus on this Motive: love God and love people (the Great Commandment) Model: Jesus - Luke 6:40 Means: Holy Spirit Power (an acronym from last month's post) Method: 4 challenges of Jesus Come and See (John 1): for seekers - just show up! Jesus used scriptures to explain why He was the Messiah Follow Me: for believers - Jesus invested in a few. New believers just need love. Follow Me, I'll make you fishers of me: Train a few to reach the masses Jesus took his disciples on 6 mission trips These people need to experience God working through them This is where the church fail...

December Baby

I've been married a year this month! What an awesome year with my super-awesome wife! I also rode the train and skateboarded to work today and it was awesome! I feel great, and a little sweaty. This may become a regular thing though -- it's way more fun than sitting in my car! A lot of notes this month... Find a group of people on an adventure and join them. All you need is: an adventure, a map (bible), a tour guide (someone who's been where I want to go or lives there). Paul was still trying to take hold of that for which Christ took of him (Philippians 3:12) -- he was never "there." We should never "arrive" either. If we have, we're just coasting (moving off of past momentum and wanting progress with no effort). Telling God "I want" can be the first and most important step of faith. 2 Corinthians 10:5 "We Demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every tho...

Two videos

Here are two videos I want to share. The first is "Thanksgiving?" a sketch by the super-talented Peter Harmon. We've worked together on a bunch of stuff and I think this one's pretty good: Thanksgiving? - watch more funny videos And the second is one my good friend Bryan Mayer made. It's got a real pro wrestler!   http://apps.facebook.com/crashthesuperbowl?page=watch&video=3728

Response to "Mercy and Justice"

I just listened to this amazing sermon from Christine Caine at Seacoast Church. She heads up A21, an organization that is working to totally end human trafficking by the end of the 21st century. She has some really, really incredible things to say. Usually I write good quotes from sermons down, but she said too many and too quickly so I wasn't able to write down much. Just do yourself a favor and listen. This is especially poignant because I was at a friend's community group meeting last night and we prayed for God to "light a fire under my butt." This prayer is birthed out of a conversation with a coworker that made me realize I'm not living a life that proves God is real. I hear stories about people who do, and it's amazing, but I want that for my self and for my family.  I feel like God is doing something awesome here... "Doubt dies unborn if it's never spoken."
